The Inner Explorations of a Doctor & Psychologist

Dr. Leonard Nijssen shares this story with us. He describes how his life changed after taking up meditation and, in particular, applying the Silva Method to his life.

Doctor Leonard Nijsen has doctorates in the field of Optometry (3countries), a B.S. in Psychology and various other minor degrees. He is also a leading member of Mensa.

“In 1972, I was in a bad shape physically, mentally and emotionally, just having come out of a bad marriage and a nasty divorce. Over a few years before my divorce I had acquired:

  1. Migraine headaches that went to tunnel vision (interesting experience when I was driving in the fast lane on the freeway) and I was taking prescription medication three times a day for this.
  2. A LONG list of allergies for which I was also taking prescription medication three times a day for this. These allergies included dust, pollen and cattle hair.
  3. My nerves were in a VERY bad shape, my hands were shaking constantly like in palsy and I was also taking prescription medication three times a day for that.

Failing to take the medication timely I would get an asthma like attack in which I would sit with my mouth open gasping for air.

One weekend in the spring I wanted to “get away” and decided to go to a ranch of friends where I helped them gather overgrown calves to be branded. I was wearing a sheepskin jacket, of course on horseback,
LOT’s of dust and LOT’s of pollen. NO ALLERGIC REACTION !!! Oops, something does not fit the medical findings.

Shortly after that, one of my friends suggested that I participate in a Silva Mind Control training offered in San Francisco. This, at the time, was Tuesday evening through Friday evening plus Saturday and Sunday all day.

On the second evening the “headache control” technique was offered and I immediately thought: “If it can control headaches, it can also control nerves and allergies since they are frequently related.” That very same evening I stopped all medications and got rid of all three conditions.
Now, at age 70 and after 34 years, I have not head a single headache, no allergies and my hands are as steady as a neuro surgeon.

This success in 1972 started me on the road to seriously explore “the mind”, it’s capabilities and other (supposedly) para-psychological aspects.

While I can give you a quite long list of experiences and successes I will limit this to the above and below listed aspects.

Being “in contact” with close family

My mother lived in Amsterdam, Netherlands while I lived in California. My mother knew of my studies but did not know what to believe. Her health was not good and she was afraid of dying. Several things happened with regards to our “connection” some of which I will list.
Also, I had agreed that I would be by her side when her time of “death” would come.

The First one…

As stated, her health was not good and she had several surgeries. On three occasions she almost died and they had to reviver her on the operating table, twice with open heart massage.

After this, once I hade learned more of “the workings”, I got the sudden urge to call her at 11 PM all three times. At that time it was 7 am in Amsterdam and there was no response. Immediately I “received” the name of a hospital, different every time.

I called the hospital and was connected to my mother. She had not informed me that she had to have surgery but it was the morning of major surgery. I assured her that there would be NO complications and there were none. The same thing when she was visiting me in CA and had to have her gall bladder removed. Again I assured her that there would be no complications and there were none.

Then, the second time…

At Christmas one year when I called her I “saw” her standing by the telephone and “saw” some of the immediate surroundings. It was about 9 am in Amsterdam and I “saw” something that looked like either fog or snow. When I asked my mother I was told that it was snowing. Next I complimented her on the dress she was wearing.

Another time…

In April 2000 my mother had been in a convalescent hospital for a few years and the doctor contacted me and informed me that he thought that the time was close. Going to meditation level I found that it was not her time yet and informed the doctor accordingly.

On Friday December 29, 2000 I received another communication and again stating that the doctor thought that her time was close. This time, when going to meditative level, I was not sure and called the airlines. They just about laughed and stated: “It is weekend and between Christmas and New Year. There are NO seats available.”

The evening of the 30th, when going to meditation level again I “received” the words: “The time is now. You need to be by her side and she will cross over on the night of the 2nd.” I again called the airlines and now was offered SIX options to fly out with the most economical being  $600.00 round trip. I flew out on 31 December, was by her side on 1st January.

Getting to the hospital I found that they had made special arrangements for me, put my mother in a room by herself and added an extra bed for me so that I could stay by her side.  I informed the division head that “my work would begin at the time she would cross over”. They did not bat an eye and informed me that when the time would come they would lock the door from the outside, nobody would be allowed in until I said so and I could leave when I wanted. All this before getting to my mother.

Next they informed me that I would find that my mother was in a coma and that her demeanor would show that she was quite disturbed. I told them that I would take care of that. Approaching her room, at about 30 or 40 feet distance, my energy became “rock solid grounded”.

Entering the room I observed that indeed she was disturbed and immediately went to the theta level and mentally projected that everything was on, I was by her side as promised. The hospital she was in was quite large (about 5,000 beds) and the immediate difference in her demeanor was so great that within an hour three doctors came in to personally observe the difference.

While the April message stimulated me in writing an article about “death”. This was a prelude to what the end product was and that paper is attached.
Needless to say, I was wide awake and right by her side when I heard her last little sigh, of course on the night of the 2nd. The rest of the experience is written in the attached.

Next, tuning in to an event yet to happen:

I had a very large office in California and worked many, many hours, generally until about midnight or later.
One evening I “knew” that I had to go home at about 5.30 pm but did not know why. I closed the office and went home. Getting home I smelled something like shellfish and I had eaten shrimp the evening before. I thought: “I ate shrimp but removed all the remnants to the garbage incinerator outside.” I looked around but saw nothing.

I stepped outside to talk with a friend and, about 20′ from the house turned around to look at the house. At that moment I saw flames hitting the ceiling in the front room. I dashed back inside, grabbed a fire extinguisher and killed the fire. When the fire department arrived about 5 minutes later they told me: “Two minutes later and the house would have been a torch”. (Tuning into the Akashic Record)

In 2002 I decided to sell my office in California and move to Mena, Arkansas. I sold the office immediately and wanted to buy a house before moving. Every house offered had problems and I finally decided to take 3 days off and see for myself.

On the plane I went to meditation level and thought: “This is ridiculous. I WILL now find the house most suited to me, it will be owner financed, the owner will accept my offer and I will have they keys in my hand
tomorrow”
. I had the idea to live again “in the country” but did not state so.

The next morning I drove with a friend to the real estate office the sign the lease for my new office location, a location I had indeed found via the Internet, and we were talking. Suddenly I stopped the car and said: “What was that?” I backed up the car and saw a house I had noted out of the corner of my eyes.

The house was in the middle of town however. I got out of the car, liked what I saw, called the real estate office and it fitted all the parameters I had stated. In fact, the house was in an ideal location to have a new office building erected behind the house, a location from which I am now typing.

Shortly after moving into the house I received a young cat. In town I do not believe in outdoor animals so she became an indoor cat. After a few months I thought: “It is not fair to the cat to be by herself all day. I want to get a second cat. Now what do I want? I want one close to the same age, fixed, all the shots house broken, black and I will call her Onyx.”

The next day I went shopping at Wal-Mart and observed some people (for the sake of animals) with dogs next to the entrance. Walking up to them I noticed that they also had some cats, one of which was black. I asked the woman: “What about this one?” and she responded with: “Oh, you like Onyx?” You guessed it, everything I had projected.

A few years ago I had to have a nerve impulse test with electrical stimulation. While on the table the doctor had a puzzled look on her face while she had been stimulating the nerves on my foot, she reached up and gently shook my thigh. She said: “I have never seen someone so relaxed”.

Recently I had to have comprehensive heart tests. The first test was a special test with nuclear medicine since I cannot do the treadmill. I received the OK from the cardiologist to use meditation during the test. One of the nurses was assigned to monitor my blood pressure. After a bit she stated: “I feel useless. Everybody’s blood pressure goes up, his goes down”. My blood pressure went from 136 down to 111.

The second test was in another hospital and they had to insert a devise into my vein, going trough the vein and check my heart. This was supposed to be under local anaesthetic but I did not like that. Again having received the Ok I used meditation to put myself completely “out”. I remember the doctor entering the room and the next thing I remember was him saying: “All done” at which point I was instantly totally alert.

Next I had to have surgery on a finger and refused full anaesthetic. They gave me a local block, put up a screen so that I could not see anything and, while they were working on my finger I had a technical
conversation with the anesthesiologist. After the surgery he told me to very carefully try to move may arm slightly, careful since people had hit themselves in their head trying to move their arm. I looked at him and said: “You want me to move it like this?” And moved each finger under full control as well as my arm.

Blood pressure

Before I had learned what I know now, I believe in 1973, I was admitted to a hospital since they thought that I had a heart attack. After a few days feeling sorry for myself, when a friend came to visit, I got fed up and said: “This is enough”. Of course I was hooked up to all kind of equipment with a nurse monitoring my readings. I started mentally playing with everything and the nurse came running into the room, everything had gone wild. I was sitting laughing while she angrily pulled all the needles and patched from me and I was discharged from the hospital.

Pain control

At this time I have severe arthritis and need a full hip replacement. I also need both knees replaced plus both shoulders. In addition I have a spur pressing on the sciatic nerve and my ulnar nerve torn out of the groove in my elbow (“funny bone” rolling over the tip of the elbow).

My doctor has finally given up asking but our conversation would be:
Doctor: “What are you taking for the pain?”
Me: “Nothing”
Doctor: “How do you walk?”
Me: “Put one foot in front of the other”
Doctor: “You have no pain?”
Me: “Unless I do something I should not do no, I have no pain, I can control that”

More “unusual” experiences and believe me, I can relate MANY more highly unusual experiences.

While being on staff with an advanced training in S.F. we decided to all go to lunch at the same restaurant two long blocks away. Needing to straighten out the room for the afternoon session I was with 4 others leaving well after the other people left.
We stood talking in front of the building and suddenly I found myself on the corner, one long block towards the restaurant, waiting for one of the participants who had left earlier (there is more to this). We walked
together to the restaurant and we were already eating lunch when the other 4 people arrived at the restaurant.

For a number of years I used to frequent a restaurant in Montara which is on the coast south of San Francisco. Since I had moved to the Sierra foothills I had not been at the restaurant several years.
One day I spent the day with a friend on the beach and decided to go to the restaurant. When we walked in the waitress asked me: “Back again?, you must like it here”. When I questioned her she insisted that I had been there having dinner the evening before.

I managed an office for a number of years in a building where there was a cafeteria next door. I would frequent that cafeteria almost daily. One day I walked in the cafeteria at lunch time and the waitress there
(different town, 100+ miles north from Montara) asked me: “Back again?” and questioning her (she knew me well) she insisted that I had been eating lunch there an hour before and we had been talking at length. An hour before I was with other people in another town, 45 minutes drive away.

Time?! One day 5 of us drove to Mountain View from Sonora. Going back that evening we wanted to be at a certain location at a certain time so I looked at the clock (so did the other people) and said: “I better slow down or we will be MUCH too early.” I went to the slow lane and all traffic was passing us. When we reached another location I looked at the clock again and said: “Guys, look at the clock please!”
We had covered the distance in such a short time that, by calculation, we would have had to average 128 miles per hour. Something that was “impossible”. The car could not go that fast and there was heavy traffic.
This was FIVE people experiencing the same thing. There are many more episodes I can relate like driving from Sacramento to Reno in one hour, “impossible” but observed leaving and arriving.

There are many more “esoteric” episodes I can relate but this is enough for now… “
